Add-ons are designed to improve your business's Internet browsing experience, but sometimes they can have the opposite affect. From adding a few seconds to your browser's start time to making your entire computer unresponsive, some add-ons give you more than added functionality. Add-ons give your browser a boost with toolbars, extra media support and help with common tasks. If your browser is starting or running slowly or your computer performs oddly when your browser is open, an add-on may be to blame.
OK to Disable
Unless your business has a program installed that requires an add-on in order to function correctly, it is OK to disable any or all add-ons. Add-ons are not vital to your browser's performance. Add-ons are optional even though you may have a few that you can't live without. Your browser or computer will work well even if you disable every add-on you have installed.
Add to Start Time
Add-ons start when you start your browser. Every add-on you install increases the time it takes for your browser to start. Some only take a fraction of a second, while others take several seconds or more. If you have multiple add-ons installed, expect at least a slight delay before your browser fully loads. If the add-ons you have installed run constantly while browsing, pages will load more slowly. Multi-function add-ons are one way to prevent this problem. In Internet Explorer, you can actually test add-on start times with Add-on Performance Advisor.

If you haven't installed any add-ons recently, but your browser and computer are suddenly slower than usual, an unwanted add-on may be the problem. When you install programs to your computer, an add-on is sometimes installed in the background to add functionality to your browser. Check your browser's add-ons to see if anything new has been installed. If so, disable or uninstall to repair the problem.
Viruses also install unwanted add-ons. Since many people never look at their add-on list, viruses are able to install silently and wreak havoc on your computer and browser. When you notice performance problems, check your add-ons immediately. Uninstall any unwanted add-ons and run a virus scan to clean your computer.
Troubleshooting
Even if employees love every add-on they have installed, too many add-ons or a resource-hungry add-on will ruin the browsing experience. The best way to troubleshoot your add-ons is to disable all add-ons and enable them one by one. If you discover noticeable performance problems with one or two add-ons, you may want to uninstall them. If you don't want to disable or uninstall, remember that the performance problems are due to the add-ons instead of a major system problem.
Disable or Uninstall
Add-ons can be disabled or uninstalled. In the browser itself, you are usually presented with the option to disable, uninstall or delete, depending on the add-on. Disabling leaves the add-on installed, but it won't run when your browser starts. Disabling is a good option for troubleshooting or if you only use the add-on occasionally. If you no longer want to use the add-on at all, uninstall it. Uninstalling is the best option if your business is changing programs and a completely new add-on is required.
Limit Add-ons
To speed up your business computers, limit add-ons. More is not a good thing. Employees with numerous add-ons will likely have a much slower computer, equaling less productivity. Ask all employees to limit the number of add-ons they use or restrict access so only your IT department can install add-ons.

Clone trooper phase 2 armor. Most modern browsers support extensions, which add additional features to your browser. But the fewer extensions you have installed, the speedier your browser should be. Here’s how to uninstall or disable extensions you don’t use.
Programs–like your antivirus–can often install their own browser extensions without your permission, so this is useful for uninstalling those as well. Each web browser has its own extensions. Removing an extension, add-on, or plug-in from one browser–like Chrome–won’t remove any similar extensions from your other installed browsers–like Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Note that browser plug-ins–like Java, Silverlight, and Flash–are different, and must be uninstalled in another way.

Google Chrome (and other Chromium-based web browsers) make this fairly easy. In Chrome, click the menu button at the top-right corner of the window, point to “More tools,” and select “Extensions.”
You can also click the menu button, select “Settings,” and select the “Extensions” option at the left side of the Settings page, or type
chrome://extensions into the address bar.
Chrome will display your list of installed extensions. Scroll through the list and click the trash can icon to the right of any extensions you want to uninstall. You can also just uncheck the “Enabled” box to temporarily disable an extension without uninstalling it. You won’t have to restart your browser after uninstalling or disabling extensions.

If an extension was installed by another program on your computer, you’ll only be able to “Disable” it instead of fully removing it from your browser. To remove the extension, you’d have to uninstall the associated program. You could try removing an extension’s files by hand, but, if it was installed by a program running on your computer, that program could just re-add those files in the future. But you don’t have to worry about that–a disabled extension might clutter the list of extensions, but it won’t run at all. It’s as good as if it were uninstalled. Prog safe mode next boot.
How to Uninstall Add-Ons in Internet Explorer
To disable a toolbar or other browser extension in Internet Explorer, click the gear menu at the top-right corner of the browser window and select “Manage add-ons.”
Select “Toolbars and Extensions” under Add-on Types, and then click the “Show” box and ensure it’s set to “All add-ons.” This ensures you’ll see all your installed browser extensions here.
Locate the extension you want to remove, paying attention to the “Name” and “Publisher” fields to identify them. If you see an extension with an unfamiliar name, try performing a web search for it. Select the extension and click the “Disable” button at the bottom-right of the window to disable it.
To completely uninstall an extension instead of just disabling it, you’ll usually need to visit the “Uninstall a program” pane in the Windows Control Panel and uninstall that plug-in. You may need to look for the name of the plug-in itself, or you may have to uninstall a program the plug-in came bundled with.
If you don’t see it in the list, you might want to perform a web search online. Some malicious extensions won’t include any easy uninstaller, so you’ll have to find an uninstall tool or remove the files by hand. Search the web for how to uninstall that particular extension from Internet Explorer and you’ll see more specific instructions.
