The new “1” option is an attempt to emulate the Gamecube color scheme displayed on a TV. The new “2” is a cold filter and the new “3” is a warm filter. Last but not least, the new “4” emulates the yellowish/reddish tone that’s been removed in lots of areas of the game.

Resident Evil has been getting a lot of HD love lately, with the Resident Evil HD Remaster, the announcement of Resident Evil Zero's upcoming HD remaster, and recent talk of Resident Evil 2 possibly getting a remake as well. The mod is being made specifically for Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition, which launched on PC in 2014. An HD mod for an HD remaster may seem odd, but the modding duo Cris and Albert have their reasons.
'With the release of the Ultimate HD version, we have confirmation that while some textures have been upgraded, the majority haven’t,' states the Resident Evil 4 HD Project's website. 'It seems safe to say that an official 100% across-the-board HD revamp of the game isn’t coming anytime soon, so now is the time to do this.'
Cris and Albert aim to improve all the textures in Resident Evil 4, including those in Mercenaries and Ada's side-story minigame Separate Ways. Their process involves scaling up textures 8-16 times their original resolution and then redrawing them.
So far, the mod includes HD-enhanced environmental textures for the whole village section of the game, which you can download from the mod's official website.

In 2005, Resident Evil 4 debuted as one of the most graphically impressive games of that console generation. Now, nearly a decade later, the visuals certainly show their age. The latest PC version of the game brought the gameplay into the land of 60 FPS, but the attempt to update the texture quality fell rather short. By and large most textures in the game have simply been up-scaled with a particular filter applied. At this point it seems safe to say that an official across-the-board HD revamp of the game isn't coming anytime soon. As a result, this project was born: a complete HD texture overhaul that remains true to the original artistic intent and tone of the game. * Be true to the original textures, intent, and tone of the game * By default, increase the texture resolution by 800%, unless a greater increase is necessary * Wherever possible, leverage the original real-life sources for a given texture (based on questions asked in this thread) What version of the game is this project for? The Ultimate HD version released this year for PC. Who are you? We’re two guys who love Resident Evil 4 and want to help create the definitive version of the game from a graphical perspective. :) Cris is from the midwest in the US, while Albert lives in Spain. Albert’s experience goes all the way back to the 2007 PC release of the game, for which he created one of the most definitive and well-received texture packs, while this is Cris’ first attempt. How much of an upgrade will this be? We are essentially taking each texture, scaling it up to 8 times the original resolution (in most cases) and redrawing / remaking from there. Additionally, there are many instances where Albert has been able to find the original source materials used, which allows us to faithfully replicate the original intent at a much higher resolution. Do you want feedback? Definitely! Please comment on any post on our site (http://www.re4hd.com) to give us feedback on our progress. In some cases it will help shape the end product! How can I keep up with your progress? There are several ways to stay connected: * Our site: http://www.re4hd.com * Twitter: @re4hdproject * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/re4hd * This thread How can we support the project? There are a few ways to help support: 1) Let others know about it! 2) Comment if you have feedback / kind words. 3) Donate (offsets the costs of tablet / software / textures purchased for this project, travel for acquiring real-life texture sources, etc). Where are you finding the real-life texture sources? Capcom did a lot of photography work in various areas of Spain and Wales for this game (and others), and they also leveraged existing texture libraries. So for us, it's a combination of the following: * Going to and photographing those same locations * Finding hi-res images online of those locations * Simply finding the original texture images used (generally speaking, some Chinese stock photo websites, and some random blogs where people uploaded their trip's photos) Have you released any of your work? Yes. Demo's of the Village area and Castle area of the game can be found on our site (re4hd.com) How long will this project take? Originally I estimated 1-2 years. Based on our progress, it seems 1 year is a reasonable estimate. However it's difficult to really gauge. Can I join the project? While anyone is welcome to let us know about any resources that may be helpful, we're not looking to add any official collaborators at this time. -------------------------------- June 2018' UPDATE: A new release is due for July 13th with everything you see listed below. Note: This does not mean the project is complete – there are several things that remain, like enemies, NPCs, playable characters, etc.
'Saddler, YOU'RE small-time'
Resident Evil 4 has been milked to death so much by Capcom over the years that it probably now resembles a mummified corpse. Still, there's one more version of the game on its way that comes via a dedicated modding community: The Resident Evil 4 HD Project.
This aims to be the definitive version of the seminal action-horror title, and a significant improvement on Capcom's own HD remaster, which to be honest wasn't really much cop.
Project lead Albert even visited the same locations that Capcom sourced the original textures from in order to gather new images. The result is nothing short of impressive, with highly-detailed textures, high-resolution character models for cutscenes, and all-new real-time lighting effects on torches and flaming arrows giving Resi 4 a massive visual overhaul.
It's not quite ready yet though, with characters and weapons having not yet been updated, as well a few other bits and bobs. Regardless, Resi 4 can be downloaded here.

Resident Evil 4 was released on GameCube and PS2 back in 2005, and has since been ported to Wii, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile.
The game is often credited for reinvigorating the Resi franchise at a time when it was rapidly losing steam, introducing a then-revolutionary new camera perspective that has influenced countless third-person shooters ever since.
Along with its returning characters and diverging story campaigns, the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake will be sporting some pretty spiffy new visuals when it launches early next year. Meanwhile, if the updated game’s new look has got you itching for some HD Resident Evil scares, there’s a new mod for the PC version of Resident Evil 4 you might want to check out.
The mod, which is officially called the ‘Resident Evil 4 HD Project,’ replaces virtually all of the textures found in the game’s three main locations with newly enhanced HD variants. Back when Capcom released its own HD remaster of Resident Evil 4 in 2014, some fans were disheartened to discover that it wasn’t quite as HD (high definition) as Capcom had originally promised, as most of the game’s textures had been left completely unaltered. One group of fan modders decided they would do what Capcom wouldn’t, and now four years later, their work has finally been completed.
As you can see in this announcement post on the mod’s website, the new version that has been released isn’t technically the “final” version, but it’s in a good enough state that the creators are making it publicly available for download. Improvements to textures, lighting, visual effects, and more have been made not only to the core story campaign but also to side modes like The Mercenaries and Separate Ways. There are still some final touch-ups that have to be made to certain character, weapon, and item models, but for the most part the mode is essentially finished, allowing players to experience Resident Evil 4 in a whole new way (at least visually).
Instructions for downloading and running the Resident Evil 4 HD Project mod can be found in the above announcement post. The mod’s creators warn that it could conflict with other custom mods, so users are encouraged to do a complete reinstall if they’ve used other mods in the past.
